Our journey began in In Cape Town, South Africa.
The history of Rare Woods takes us back to the early 1980’s in Cape Town South Africa where founder, Rory Wood set out on a lifelong quest to supply craftsmen with beautiful woods from around the world.
Back then, local cabinet makers had to accept the 6 basic woods available. Fast forward 40 years to the present day where they now have access to the 150 different species that Rare Woods SA currently offers.
Cape Town is now accepted as the “WOOD CAPITAL” of South Africa and everywhere one goes, one can see magnificent examples of wood that will have a timeless appeal for generations to come.
In 2008, Rory established Rare Woods USA and brought his passion for high end exotic lumber to the US. Sadly, Rory is no longer with us, but the mission to supply beautiful exotic lumber from around the world lives on with family owned Rare Woods USA.
Our distribution center is situated in the picturesque Western Mountains and Lakes area of Maine. We invite you to visit our showroom and see first hand what we have on offer.
